About KS Jewellery & Synthetic Opal
Jack Gray, the holder of this website, practiced as a dentist working with silver and gold for many years. Jack graduated in dentistry in 1940 and soon after enlisted in the Australian Military Force (Dental Corps). After working in many units in NSW & Queensland he was transferred to Wau, in PNG where he worked in an area of the Owen Stanley Ranges and other remote locations. After the end of the War, Jack returned to Sydney and to civilian practice as a dentist for the next 35 years.
In the early 1960’s Jack visited China and began a new business importing scientific equipment supplying Australian companies and government stores. Over the years, on their trips to China, Jack and his wife Marjorie collected antique and interesting arts and crafts, usually small items and these accumulated within the family.
When Jack retired, he began working again with silver and gold but this time making jewellery. Jack taught his granddaughter to make jewellery and gave classes to local lapidary groups and to University of the Third Age participants.
Jack has recently taken up reproducing in silver, some of the family collection of artifacts which were made from jade, bronze, and soapstone. Some are antiques authenticated by the Chinese Government as being more than 1000 years old.
The pieces displayed on this website are items from the family collection which have been duplicated and cast in Sterling Silver. Over time additional items will be added to the collection.
